The Idle Hands - All Night Sinnin'

The Idle Hands hail from the town of the crooked spire, Chesterfield in Derbyshire - a classic British Blues Rock band of 20 years standing with four albums already under their belt. All Night Sinnin' is their fifth release and their vocalist and lyricist Phil Allen tells me "… and we've already started writing the next album". It is clear that this is not a band sitting on its laurels - as Phil describes the past couple of years of the bands history it is clear that they are as hungry as ever to grow, develop and to continue to make great music. With influences like Jimi Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, Led Zeppelin (and many more cited on the band's website) you will not be disappointed by the characteristic sound of The Idle Hands.

If it was down to talent and capability - then either Jedward or Lloyd, but this year I feel it is hard to predict anything with any certainty. As far as singing goes then Joe, Danyl, Stacey, Olly are streets ahead - but Lloyd will no doubt be appealing to many teenage girls and will have the Welsh vote and Jedward have generated huge media interest and will have the Irish vote.

Joe's performance was excellent last night, as was Danyl's. Olly and Stacey were both good - but they've been better I think. All we can do is wait and see (sorry for the statement of the bleeding obvious).

SCD, I wasn't surprise to see Ricky Groves go - just a shame that he was clearly very annoyed with himself after the routine and he more or less threw the towel in before the dance-off. This ones is much easier for me - if the final 2 are not Ali / Brian and Ricky / Natalie then I'll pickle Len's walnuts myself.

In other news, feeling considerably better today - thank heavens. The past two weeks have been pretty rough. Looking forward to going out today to see friends and have a nice lunch.

I caught up with a very good old friend recently - he reminded me of a poem (I use the word poem in the loosest sense of the word) that I wrote when my eldest son Andrew went off to his first day at Comprehensive School. Although, I wrote this about Andrew - it applies equally well to Kim and Dan, the years of childhood just fly by.

I've never forgotten how strong my emotions were that day - where had the first 10 years of my first born son disappeared to? Over the past few years I have become more emotional I think - not in a bad way, but seeing your kids leave home, have kids of their own, etc. I am very proud of them - but sometimes, I selfishly want to go back about 20 years.

Anyway, here is that poem ... with a bit of nostalgic technical stuff for some of you out there before and after it :-)

Dear Diary,

One hour ago I saw my little boy go to school ...
He looked smart - he looked very fine - he is mine ...
His first day at the comprehensive school ...

Surely he is not that old already?
He is not such a little boy any more is he?
He probably will not look smart when he comes home!
How much longer will he be mine?

I can still remember him 20 minutes old staring at me,
I can still remember him keeping me awake all night,
I can still remember him ...

I want him to grow,
and develop,
of course I do,
I just wish he'd do it at my pace!

I cried five minutes ago,
I am crying now,
Could I do more?
Am I a good father?

I hope so...

Philosophers and ploughmen each must know his part.

Just my views on last night's show ...

My two-penneth on last night's X-factor:

Jamie Archer - Radio Ga-ga - 6/10

Lloyd Daniels - Crazy little thing called love - 6/10 right until the last line so 5/10

Olly Murs - Don't Stop Me Now - sounded a bit off key to me ... Hmm ... 7.5/10 (Louis named the same 3 comparative singers as me and Marie - Robbie, Gary Barlow & Will Young - perhaps he is not so bad after all)

Joe McElderry - Somebody To Love - best so far - 9/10 ... Best singer in the competition. (I want Dermot to stuff Louis' rule book where the sun don't shine)

Jedward - Under Pressure - destroy Queen and Bowie in one go ;-) ... They're allowed to ruin Vanilla Ice tho! A few bum notes and I hate to say it but it was not too bad 7/10 (LOL@Dannii - Louis broke the rules)

Stacey Solomon - Who wants to live forever - my favourite Queen song, I absolutely adore it - wow she looks lovely tonight tonight - 9.5/10 amazing and Scowell is right ... So far ;-)

Danyl Johnson - We are the champions - this guy can sing ... But something is missing for me - he messed with the melody too much for me - 9/10 ... Judges loved him, but tonight Stacey was my fave tonight.
